Texas couple may want criminal defense info after facing charges

Feb 5, 2018 | Criminal Defense

Though some circumstances relating to an alleged criminal situation may seem bizarre and incriminating, it does not mean that the parties accused in the situation are automatically guilty. Individuals facing any type of criminal charge have the right to create and present a criminal defense against the allegations. It is also important to remember that those accused are presumed innocent until — and only if — proven guilty in a court of law.

Two individuals in Texas will undoubtedly want to explore their defense options after recently being taken into custody. Reports stated that a woman claimed to have been held prisoner and used as a slave by a husband and wife. Apparently, the woman had been involved with the man for some time, and one day, he reportedly picked her up from a women’s shelter and took her to get a drink. The woman claims that after the drink she felt disoriented, and when she woke up, she was restrained.

The woman stated that she was used as a slave by the man’s wife and that the couple kept her shackled. She managed to get a message to a friend after the couple allowed her to use a computer tablet. The authorities were contacted, and they found the woman in a room with a bucket for her to use as a toilet and a paper plate for her to eat from. The couple are now facing charges for kidnapping and human trafficking.

Individuals may wish to remember that the reported details of a situation may differ drastically from what actually took place. The man and woman should have the opportunity to give their side of the story as part of their criminal defense if they wish to do so. Obtaining information on their defense options from local Texas legal resources may help them find the best paths for their circumstances.
