An arrest can affect a person’s life in many ways. When a young adult makes a decision that leads to criminal charges, the rest of his or her life could see the effects of that decision, especially if the case ends in a conviction. As a result, it is important to work toward lessening the negative outcomes for animal abuse charges as best as possible.
It was recently reported that a 21-year-old man in Texas was taken into custody after the death of a horse. Apparently, the man is suspected of having stolen the horse, which belonged to a 10-year-old girl, and riding it for hours until it could no longer move. After the horse stopped, the man allegedly started punching it in the face, according to witnesses.
The animal came to a stop outside of a business, and employees called authorities while trying to help the horse. After arriving at the scene, officers indicated that the horse was shaking, sweating and appeared to be extremely exhausted. A short time later, the horse collapsed and died. The man was apparently not at the scene when authorities arrived, but he was later apprehended and is currently facing charges for felony cruelty to livestock, theft of livestock and other allegations.
The charges brought against this Texas man can lead to jail time and other consequences if he is convicted. A felony charge for animal abuse is not easy to address, but he does have legal options for combating the accusations. It may be in his best interests to gain as much information about his defense options as possible.
